The Evolution Theory Revisited - Remain Viable to Remain
It was not long ago when I struggled in school days to remain at par and at pace with other students to get grades - Measure of success back then was good grades and ability to crack entrance examinations which guaranteed you a good college and further a good job. A job that would get you the required pseudo financial security for starters and social affiliation. This will further turn into a race to remain at par or ahead of your peers and colleagues to progress the ladder of the corporate food chain and while that happens you will learn to become a specialist in what trade you chose to brand yourself with for remainder of your life or become a leader. Ah ! and yes while you do this all you will also might get married, have kids and pass on the similar values which you lived by or so to say were conditioned to live by or venture into the space all by yourself.
But an anomaly I have started witnessing which is now is becoming visible at a macro level and will trigger a plausible change in how we conduct ourselves in the greater working class society.
May I introduce 'Workforce automation', for a minute you will say this term has been here, we have heard it and we know though it helps businesses to perform better it and impacts employment rates.
But look closer, it is bigger animal, It is the elephant in the room which is now beginning to binge on our lives. For starters India's service industry workforce will shrink by 4,80,000 by the year 2021 a decline 14 % in employment in just 4 years from now. Scary right ? But there is flip side to it. While low skill jobs will suffer the most by taking a hit of 21% reduction of employment opportunities the high skill employment rates will jump by 10-15% during this time.
So what does this all really means ? In Hollywood's biblical language 'I'd say Skynet will takeover'. Statistically, we will soon be at the verge of losing more jobs at a faster rate and creating the same at a slower pace. And academically, we will need to diversify our specialities to remain viable so when our primary job gets eaten up by that robot and we can continue to support our way of life with newly honed secondary skills.
The future of outsourcing is bright - However, In future we will outsource to machines and not humans, as we know the human race has finally come privy to knock of the next big evolution shift on its door.
